How much hanging space do I need?

As a rough guide, allow about 0.6m of hanging rail per person for everyday short-hang items (shirts, tops, skirts), plus a long-hang section of at least 0.4m for dresses and coats. Two people sharing a robe usually want the hanging split into 2 zones so nothing crowds. This planner works that out from your width and who uses the space.

Drawers or shelves, which should I choose?

Drawers suit folded clothes, underwear and smaller items you want out of sight, and soft-close runners keep them tidy. Open shelving suits jumpers, denim, bags, bedding and anything you grab in a stack. Most wardrobes work best with both: a bank of drawers for small items and a few shelves for folded and bulky pieces.

What are the standard wardrobe rail heights?

A single long-hang rail typically sits around 1.6m to 1.8m off the floor, while a double short-hang setup places rails at roughly 1.0m and 2.0m to stack shirts and tops. For a child's room the rail is set lower so clothes are reachable, then reworked as they grow. A specialist confirms the exact heights on the measure.
